Your Medicare Coverage Deserves a Second Look for 2027

Your Health Needs Can Change. Your Medicare Coverage Can Change Too.

You worked hard to reach this stage of life. Your Medicare coverage should support your healthcare needs, medications, doctors, and budget.

As we prepare for 2027 Medicare coverage, now is an important time to understand your current benefits and determine whether your coverage continues to meet your needs.

At MyBlueOptions, we help Medicare beneficiaries understand their available options so they can make informed decisions with greater confidence.

No pressure. No confusing insurance language. Just personalized Medicare guidance designed to help you understand your choices.

Already Have Medicare? Don’t Automatically Assume Your Current Coverage Is Still the Right Fit.

Medicare Advantage and prescription drug plans can change from one year to another.

Changes may affect:

  • Monthly plan premiums
  • Copayments and coinsurance
  • Prescription drug coverage
  • Drug formularies
  • Pharmacy networks
  • Doctor and hospital networks
  • Deductibles
  • Maximum out-of-pocket amounts
  • Dental, vision and hearing benefits, when offered
  • Other supplemental benefits

That’s why reviewing your coverage can be important—even when you’re satisfied with the plan you currently have.

A plan that worked well for you in 2026 may still be appropriate for 2027, or changes in your healthcare needs or available plans may give you reasons to consider other options.

The goal isn’t simply to change plans.

The goal is to make sure you understand the coverage you have and the options available to you.

Turning 65? You Don’t Have to Figure Out Medicare Alone.

If you’re approaching age 65, you may already be receiving information about Medicare from many different sources.

It can quickly become overwhelming.

You may be wondering:

When should I enroll in Medicare?

Do I need Medicare Part A and Part B?

Should I consider Medicare Advantage or Original Medicare?

Do I need Medicare Supplement Insurance?

What about prescription drug coverage?

Can I keep my doctors?

Will my medications be covered?

These are important questions—and the answers can depend on your individual situation.

MyBlueOptions can help explain your Medicare options in plain language so you can make a more informed decision.

Medicare Advantage: Look Beyond the Monthly Premium

You may see Medicare Advantage plans advertised with low or even $0 additional monthly plan premiums.

But monthly premium is only one part of evaluating Medicare coverage.

A $0-premium Medicare Advantage plan does not mean healthcare is free.

Depending on the plan, beneficiaries may still have copayments, coinsurance, deductibles and other out-of-pocket expenses. You must also continue paying your Medicare Part B premium unless another program pays it on your behalf.

Before considering a Medicare Advantage plan, it is important to look at the entire picture.

Ask questions such as:

Are my doctors in the network?

Is my preferred hospital in the network?

Are my prescriptions covered?

What will I pay when I see a specialist?

What could I pay if I am hospitalized?

What is the plan’s maximum out-of-pocket amount?

How does the plan cover me when I travel?

What additional benefits are available, and do I qualify for them?

The answers can be more important than the advertised monthly premium.

Medicare Supplement Insurance May Be Another Option

Some beneficiaries choose Original Medicare together with Medicare Supplement Insurance, commonly called Medigap.

Medigap policies are designed to help pay certain out-of-pocket costs that Original Medicare does not pay.

Medicare Supplement Insurance and Medicare Advantage are different types of coverage and do not work together.

Your eligibility, enrollment rights, medical underwriting requirements where permitted, premiums and available policies can depend on your circumstances.

Understanding these differences before making a decision is important.

Don’t Forget Your Prescription Medications

Prescription drug coverage can be one of the most important factors when reviewing Medicare coverage.

Don’t assume that because your prescription was covered this year, it will have exactly the same coverage or cost next year.

When reviewing your Medicare prescription drug options, consider:

  • Your medication list
  • Dosages
  • Plan formulary
  • Drug tiers
  • Copayments or coinsurance
  • Preferred pharmacies
  • Mail-order options
  • Prior authorization requirements
  • Quantity limits and other coverage restrictions

Your prescription needs should be part of your overall Medicare review.

Your Medicare Decision Should Be About YOU

Your neighbor’s plan may not be the right plan for you.

Your spouse’s coverage may not necessarily be the right coverage for you either.

Why?

Because Medicare beneficiaries can have very different:

  • Doctors
  • Specialists
  • Prescriptions
  • Medical conditions
  • Preferred hospitals
  • Budgets
  • Travel habits
  • Healthcare priorities

At MyBlueOptions, we believe a Medicare conversation should begin by understanding you.
